Hi ya’ll 🙂

As I write this post, we (my family) are sitting on pins and needles watching the playoffs.   My hubby is PA born and bred, so it’s not a big surprise that he’s a die hard Steelers fan.   My boys have followed in his footsteps from their early days.  I was reluctant at first as I grew up in the SF Bay area and my mother was a serious 49ers fan, but I eventually caved and started following the Steelers.   As you might imagine, with all men in my house watching a high stakes game like this gets a little loud and a little crazy, too.   Fun, though!

I was really intrigued by Michele Kovack’s Faux Tile tutorial posted on Splitcoaststampers a week or so ago.   We’ve done some similar techniques in our weekly challenge before, but none quite like this.

I knew I was going to love this technique as soon as I started.  The cutting into even pieces soothes the OCD in me.   When I paired it with the grid acetate it felt so right! LOL

It was difficult, however to get a good picture.  Either I had too much shine or not enough.  Here’s a close up of one corner that shows it better:

I had a feeling that the fact that it takes a couple hours to let the glaze dry on this, some of the normal participants in this challenge might sit out.   So, I put the technique to a little test.

If you use different mediums to create the faux tile, you can achieve the same or similar look:

A)     UTEE – similar effect, not quite as shiny, but no wait time on the drying.

B)      CLEAR EMBOSS (2x) – more of a matt finish, but no wait time on drying.

C)       GLOSSY GLAZE – excellent coverage and shine.  2 hours minimum on drying.

D)     ALEENE’S CLEAR GEL – result is a clear “bubble”, which is cool, but at least 2 hours dry time.

I also got to thinking about tiles themselves.   Though I followed suit with Michele’s sample and did mine in a square, tiles can be used in a varying array of patterns.   I might just have to play again!

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Copics, Versmark

Accessories: 7/8″ black grosgrain, lime green embroisery floss, word window punch, nesties fleur de lis frame, ornate corner die, Glossy Accents by Ranger, dimensionals, sticky tape.

Gorgeous flower, Holly, and I love the tiled look! Stunning card against the BG and the corner decors are great! Thanks for the comparison too. Very interesting to see the differences.

Had LOL about the cheering for the Steelers, but must say I can relate as I was a force to be reckoned with during the Canada/USA Gold Medal hockey match. Poor cat got scared off his box by the fireplace about three times when I was “ahem” cheerring and finally decided not to come back until the game was over LOL! Should be a great Super Bowl with that match up.

    Have a great week 🙂

Here from the SCS site. This is such a gorgeous card. The colors are beautiful and against the dark background are just knockouts! After I visit a few more of your entries I must get back to the SCS Faux Tile tutorial for review. TFS

I love the tiles but the color combo blows me away. What I want to know is where to buy the grid acetate. All the acetate I’ve seen has white and I would love to have something with color. TFS
