~ This was SEW fun!! ~

Good evening, friends!
Well, I promised my good friend, Kelly, that I would get the Technique Lovers Challenge on a schedule to be posted in the late evening on Sunday. Here you go, Kelly! 🙂
Today’s Technique challenge is to make a Scratch N’ Sniff card. I did quite a bit of playing around with this technique as there are different schools of thought on how to accomplish the desired result. Most of the examples were done using a ”fruity” type image, such as SU’s Tart N’ Tangy. I have that set, but really wanted to do something different.
I was messing around and found that you CAN use non-alcohol based perfumes to scent your image. I first took a good amount (about 2 tablespoons) of UTEE and spread it out on a piece of scrap paper. Then I spritzed the UTEE with my perfume. I gave it a good 4-5 squirts. Then I let the UTEE sit and dry out a bit. I stamped my image and colored it. Then I cut it out. I turned the image upside down on my versamark pad (note: I used an old versamark pad because the ink WILL transfer to your pad if it is at all wet!) and I patted the back until my image was good and soaked. Then I turned it over and sprinkled the scented UTEE on the image. I tapped the excess off and heat set the UTEE on the low setting on my heat gun. At first, the scent was “trapped”, so I waited a few minutes and reapplied the UTEE and heat set again. After it set for a few minutes, I cracked it slightly and it ”released” the scent!
Ok, now I have to “GEEK” for a minute! As you can see (but please don’t look TOO closely!), I actually sewed on my card! I have been wanting to sew on cards for so long. I had the machine sitting in my closet for nearly two years, but was afraid to open the box. Well, I faced my fear and have to say I LIKE IT! It is going to take some practice to get the hang of it, but practice makes perfect :).
Here are my deets:
Stamps: SU’s Embrace Life
Colors: Always Artichoke, Bermuda Bay, Very Vanilla, dps
Ink: Versafine Black Onyx, copics, Versamark
Accessories: black lace, eyelet border punch, sewing machine, 1/2 pearls, UTEE, dimensionals, gardenia scented perfume.

This is beautiful, love the colors, and good to know about the scents.
lovely card holly. i check and drool over the challenges here everyday. wish i could be brave and try a few. but i sit and drool in amazement!
LOL Holly! I’ve had a Janome machine in my closet, unopened, for probably three years! You’ve inspired me to also face my fears and “just do it!” However, I admit I’m a bit nervous about “other projects” besides paper crafting creeping into the picture. I’ll let you know how all this turns out. BTW, I absolutely LOVE this card! The black lace works great with that eyelet border punch, and the homemade scented EP sounds fun too. Linda
Holly, your card turned out beautifully! I was so happy I could play along last night after work! It took me forever to get the right combo of UTEE and card scents oil but eventually I got it!
Thanks for the fun challenge!
Your card is beautiful, Holly! I love the rich colors. I have used my sewing machine before but have an unopened bottle of UTEE that has been “something-to-try” for a couple of years now! The effect is so wonderful.. and to think it smells good, too!
