IC156 ~ Saying Goodbye To Family~
November 29th, 2008 by Holly McMillen
I spent my evening saying my goodbyes to my cousins and one uncle. It was so bittersweet. My two cousins have 5 boys between them and my uncle (who is close to my age) has a boy and girl. The kids, including mine, have gotten along so well over the last few days and it was hard for them to say goodbye, too. Fast friends were made, a crush formed and alot of love was shared. As they head back to California and Texas, we say a prayer for their safety. It started snowing ever so lightly just as we walked out the door to leave. God was smiling on us, though, as we all melted away into the night…. Leaving my aunt and uncle wondering if their house will ever be filled with that much laughter and love again. Oh, we talk of all the cousins getting together for a reunion. We talk of visits in the summer and so forth, but we all know life is getting hectic and things like that are hard to do. It is usually a funeral that brings us together, so this year we are very THANKFUL for our Thanksgiving reunion.
I woke early this morning, not able to sleep any longer. The thought of one last visit with my Uncle Ben before he leaves has me excited. My Uncle Ben is the jokester in the family and keeps us all laughing. I could use a good laugh. He will be here for breakfast in a few hours.
I checked the IC this morning and there was alot to inspire. I chose this piece to inspire me. The opposite side of the piece reminded me of ornaments, so I went to work making ornaments from punches. They are stamped with a tiny snowflake in craft white first, then in a bigger snowflake in kiwi kiss. The ornament toppers are made of a small oval punch creased in half with the corners cut off.

~Pink Snowflakes~
It is a cold morning here today, so I decided to just keep creating as long as the kids are sleeping. I chose this as my inspiration this time, though I didn’t like the greens, I wanted pink! I have just the person in mind for the pink and pearl snowflake card. She is traditional and elegant. I think it is perfect! I am also loving this paper by October Afternoon.
Here are the deets:
Stamps: Hero Arts’ Christmas set
Colors: Very Vanilla, Regal Rose, October Afternoon dp
Ink: Brilliance Graphite Black
Accessories: ribbon, 1/2 pearls, snowflake punch, circle punch, oval punch, MS lace border punch, fiskars ribbon punch, dimensionals
TFL and have a huggy day!
Just LOVE that pink card!! Love how you did the snowflake, the ribbon treatment is lovely once again and the pearls are a perfect touch. Great job.
Sorry to hear everyone is leaving today…..but glad to know you all had a wonderful time together! That’s what memories are for — we had a similar experience last Christmas when we went to Edmonton to my DH’s brother’s house for Christmas and everyone was there.
Trusting this time lifted your aunt Marci’s spirits and gave her strength to carry one her battle. Blessings.
A crush????? Has my DD been replaced???? LOL
I love both of your cards today – they are so different and both so perfect! The branches and ornaments on the first are just beautiful. The second speaks to me, as of course, it is PINK! Love the ribbon treatment — you always are so creative!
