~ I {Heart} Rebus! ~
August 8th, 2010 by Holly McMillen
Hi Friends 🙂
Well, God is smiling on us. Â After two short weeks of layoff, Don goes back to work on Monday (today). Â It’s quite a testament to his skills that not only does he get a job in this economy, but they also called him out of the blue. Â He’s so psyched, too. Â The company, Powers Products, is an amazing company. Â They’ve been in business for over 60 years and have always been family owned and operated. Â They just recently secured the contract to do the Wyoming War Memorial. Â Don is excited that he may get to work on that.
With kids going back to school this week and next (depending on where you live), I thought we’d do something fun and a little ”kiddish” for the Technique Lovers Challenge.  Rebus puzzles were all the rage when I was young.  I had some really cool rebus books that I use to read to the kids, too. Not long ago, I discovered that  Frances Byrne (StampOwl) posts a rebus on her blog every now and again.  It got me thinking how those could be used on a card.  This is what I came up with:
I didn’t have an apple stamp (weird, huh?), so I drew that myself. Â The pie image is from the Art is a Window set from There She Goes and the lettering is from A-Z and 123’s set from There She Goes.
Here are my deets:
Stamps: There She Goes A-Z and 123’s and There She Goes Art is a Window
Colors: Creamy Caramel, Kiwi Kiss, Real Red, GP White, Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety
Ink: Versafine Black Onyx, Copics, Tim Holtz’ tea bag distressing Ink
Accessories: 7/8″ Gingham Ribbon (red/vanilla), candy dots, swiss dots embossing folder, dimensionals, jute, hole punch, scalloped rectangle nestabilities, bow easy, sticky tape, sponge

Thanks so much for stopping by! Â I hope you’ll pop over to the challenge forums on Splitcoaststampers.com and play along!
Hugs,
Holly
This is gorgeous Holly!! Love it!!
Holly, that looks gorgeous! And your hand drawn apple looks perfect!
Hugs and smiles
Love your card and the challenge Holly, I had fun being able to use my rebus stamps on an actual card for a change hehe.
pssst…. the link to my blog here goes to No Time To Stamps blog … just thought you might wanna know 😉
Darling card, Holly, and your apple is amazing!! Gingham ribbon is perfect and I love the “x” stitch at the top. Great card. SO glad to hear Don got work so quickly, but now so quickly that your garden didn’t get a makeover LOL! God is so good and I’m thrilled to hear it is such a wonderful company too! May this be a long haul job 🙂
Once again, your coloring and details elevate your card from *craft* to *art*
Wowza!
Love this card…Great job on the apple. Wonderful ribbon.
You are sooo talented! I totally loved going back in time with this fun idea!
I like the vintage feel of this card. Great coloring job on the pie and the apple!
Holly, your card is fabulous! The apple is perfect. I tried the Rebus puzzles in my room for the first time last year – the kids loved them. I love your card.
I just saw this card on SCS and had to let you know I thought it was really clever. I would dearly love to CASE this for a card for a charity I make cards for! Would that be okay? Please let me know. I’d make a few changes, of course, but not many.
