~ Boxing Day ~

Boxing Day close up

One of the advantages I’ve had in living in so many places is that I have learned some cultural nuances that have
truly enriched my life.

We moved to the Buffalo area in the fall of 1994, just moments after my 4th son was born. I was offered a job in the
Tonawanda community which skirts the west side of Buffalo. Buffalo has an extremely rich variety of cultures. I was
intrigued by how the Canadian customs influenced the people of Western New York. Keep in mind, there is just a river that separates the two.

So the first time I heard the term Boxing Day, I was clueless. Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26th. It is
a tradition that started in England in the middle ages. The day is set aside to thank our service people. Originally,
this would be maids, waitstaff, tradesmen and so on. It extended to anyone who regularly performs a service (i.e.
mailman, handyman, mechanic, and so on).

Today I’ve actually CASED myself from several years back and made money cards. These cards are perfectly sized to
hold US dollars (of any $$, of course!).
