~ The Sisterhood ~

Hi Friends!

Today I’m going to share a couple projects that I’ve yet to blog…   I seem to be getting a little backlogged on posting with all the Dare to Get Dirty challenges going on.   I’ll catch up here soon, though!

First, I want to share a project I made for last week’s Rubbernecker Stamps blog post, Tuesdays with The Team.

Ok, now it’s time for a small rant.   If you don’t wish to read my rant, I don’t blame you… just skip to the bottom.

They say that the two subjects you should avoid in conversations are politics and religion.    I’m going to break that rule now.   As many of you know, I have lived with mental illness for many many years.   I am an intelligent, loving, compassionate person, yet so many people look at me like I have a third eye in the middle of my head.

With the debt ceiling debate going on this last week or so, I’ve been told several times that the “entitlements” (i.e. social security disability, welfare, medicaid/medicare, etc) need to be cut from the government funded programs.  That really angers me.   One person blatantly told me that I am sucking off the teet of the American people.

HOLD THE PHONE!   I worked for 20 + years and paid into the system just like everybody else.  Just because my mental illness is not something you can see with the naked eye, does not make it any less a disability than a lost limb or a terminal illness.   I struggle every day (even when I’m well medicated) just like a cancer patient does.

I know full well that mental illnesses scare people who have not dealt with them first hand.  Heck even those that have dealt with it are frightened of the consequences.   It’s understandable, but the general public needs to be educated.

Ok, I feel better now 🙂

Lastly, I want to share that the Rubbernecker Design Team has a new name!   We are from here on out to be known as the Stampin’ Sisterhood!   I’ve always wanted sisters!! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!!

Hi, I was just admiring your tutorial at SCS. Awesome!
I appreciate your thoughts. It seems a very false kind of economy to take services away from those that need it most. And that mental illness is an illness, just like you said, same as other more obvious disabilities.
My sister has struggled with mental illness for the last 15 years and that’s what’s sparked my response.

I am so with you Holly! As you know my son is autistic and probably won’t be able to work to support himself fully for the rest of his life-I am sure that the person who said that has had NO contact with mental illness in their family and therefore don’t understand how debilitating in can be. I know you are a wonderful, friendly and talented person (first hand too!) and hope everything works out for you and your family-hugs
P.S. still want to come up and visit you!

You are not alone. I’ve been depressed and had anxiety all of my life. Then my allergies/asthma got so bad, I can’t go outside for two to three months a year (ragweed season).
I was widowed at a young age and drew SS for myself and the kids for over 12 years. Then I worked for 20 plus years. Finally, I couldn’t work anymore so I filed for Disability. The problems were mental, extreme allergies and a missing disk in my back. No one can understand any of my problems and some idiots say “take a pill”, especially for the allergies. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I hope and pray every year that I make it through the season. TAKE A PILL????
I’ve taken allergy shots (three at a time for many years) since I was nine and am on all the best meds.
So, I do know where you are coming from. I now get part of my SS from disability and part from widow’s benefits. We paid a dear price for what we get, so some people need to quit irritating people who are entitled.
Not to make this into a book but my significant other has Parkinson’s and a form of Dementia. He’s only 55 but has been on disability for several years now. Of course, people can see some of the effects of Parkinson’s so that is acceptable.

Your cards are gorgeous! And rant all you want, sounds like it was needed! People are stupid, and insensitive, and need to learn to think before they speak!
