Good morning, friends!

Last evening, Noah and I watched a movie called Taking Chance.   My son, Noah, is enlisting in the Marines in a few months and as hard as it is for me, I am very proud.   The movie is about a young man (a Marine), who is killed in action.   Well, it’s not so much about him as it is about the process of getting his body home to his family.   The movie has a documentary feel to it.    If you get a chance to see it, I highly recommend it…. but have plenty of tissues available!

So this morning’s Ways To Use It challenge is to make a 4th of July or Canada Day project without using Red, White and Blue.   That went against my grain.   I bleed red, white and blue.   But, I’m always up for a challenge, so I ran with it.   Here’s what I came up with:

I started by creating the flag background with a sharpie and copics.  Then I crumpled it and ran it through the cuttlebug with the star embossing folder.  All of the layers are distressed.    In my mind, I was thinking of the history of the song “My Country, Tis of Thee”.   It was actually written before the Star Spangled Banner.   Samuel F. Smith wrote the song when he was a theology student.   So, seeing that it was before the national anthem was adopted, we probably hadn’t adopted the red white and blue yet, either.
