~ Change The Way You Gift ~
May 19th, 2009 by Holly McMillen
Happy day!
Today’s My Favorite Things blog hop is all about the thought. You know the saying, “It’s the thought that counts”? Well we are putting that into action. Kim at My Favorite Things sent the girls on the design team a wonderful little jar and challenged us to find a way to use it ~ creatively.
So, if you have arrived here via Amy’s blog, you are on the right track. If not, you may wish to start back on Kim’s blog to see all the awesome ideas the girls have come up with.
I was inspired to do some web surfing when the challenge was laid down. I found so many awesome sites that offered homemade gifts and ‘potions’. So, I had to narrow it down a bit. I started thinking of women my age. Our skin need more pampering as we get older. I fell upon this awesome recipe for Oatmeal Almond Scrub that sounded perfect for my friends as well as pocketbook!
The ingredients are simple:
1 cup of rolled oats (the old fashioned kind)
1 cup of Almonds
4 tablespoons of cornstarch
4 tablespoons of Chamomile tea leaves (I used the tea bags and cut them open)
This is so easy to make! Dump all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and grind until it is a fine meal. The concoction is then sifted slightly to remove any large chunks and put into the jar. This recipe makes enough to fill at least three of these jars (offered by MFT!).
To use the scrub, simply pour a small amount into the palm of your hand, add a little water to make a paste. Apply to your skin/face and work it in in a circular motion. Wipe face clean with a warm wet cloth and enjoy your smooth skin!
Here is the cost breakdown on this project:
Jar (comes in lots of 4) $12.00
Rolled Oats $ 2.00
Almonds $ 5.00
Cornstarch $ 1.00 (for the entire box, only 4 tablespoons were used!)
Chamomile Tea bags $ 4.00 (1/3rd of the box was used)
Total~ $ 24.00 ~makes 4 jars (that’s only $6.00 each!)
Here are my deets:
Stamps: My Favorite Things’ Time for the Bubbly Label set
Colors: GP White
Ink: Versafine Black Onyx, copics
Accessories: Jar, foam, material, ribbon, hot glue gun, glue stick, compass, scissors, buttons, word window punch, silver cord.

I have to add that this was one of the most fun projects I have ever worked on. My 16 yr old son got in on the fun with me and we had a blast together. We were having so much fun, we forgot to put the cornstarch in, initially …. that’s why it’s not in the pic! LOL He would be horrified that I am telling you this, but he wanted to be the first one to try the concoction! 🙂
Also coming to the MFT store:
*Stephanie Fizer Papers – School Collection digi paper pack
*Jars sized to fit label stamp sets (will be sold in packs of 4, more info and cost info will be posted later)
