~ A Fisher of Men ~

Good morning, all 🙂

Our Daily Bread Designs is kicking off a week of celebration!    Our Daily Bread Designs is one year old.    Just like a loving mother of a one year old child, there will be lots of gifts and fanfare for the big event.    I hope you follow along with the ODBD crew on our week of fun and festivities.

Today, I am bringing you a fun tutorial.     I have made these little frames before, but this one is very special to me.   It comes from my heart.

fisher-of-men.jpg

For this project, you will need:

3 – 5″ chipboard squares

6 – 5″ pieces of patterned paper (coordinating)

ribbon

nestabilities label 1 & 2 dies

flies (as in fly fishing flies!)

brads or candy dots

oval punches (small and medium)

photo corner punch

1/4″ hole punch

stamps (Fishers of Men used here)

Now, I could not find chipboard in 5″ squares, so I purchased a piece of 12″ x 12″ chipboard and cut it down to 5″ squares.   I adhered my patterned paper to my three panels using regular two sided tape.   I alternated patterns for interest.    Do this to the front AND back of your panels (makes both sides look nice!)

Next, punch three holes in your first panel (left).   Although I “eyeball” these punches, it is advisable to measure the width between to make sure they are even.   Lay your first panel on top of your second panel and mark where the holes are onto the second panel… this way they line up!   Repeat this with the third panel.

Note:   I used coordinating cardstock as accent pieces to each panel.   These were adhered PRIOR to punching the ribbon holes!I decorated each panel as shown…

For Panel 1 (left), I stamped and colored the image with copic markers.    I cut the image out using the out of the box technique.   The image was matted and baby blue 1/2 pearls added to the corners.

fisher-of-men-left.jpg

For Panel 2 (Middle), I first stamped the sentiment on Bashful Blue cardstock, then ran it through the cuttlebug using the label 2 die.   Then I used the same size die and one two sizes smaller to make the frame.    I punched pieces of coordinating cardstock with my small and medium oval punches and made the accents for the frame by folding both in half and wrapping around the frame.

fisher-of-men-center.jpg

For Panel 3 (Right), I cut my two mats with Label 1 nesties and adhered them together.   Then I wrapped them with velvet ribbons  in green and rust.    I attached the flies to the velvet ribbon and popped that panel on dimensionals.

fisher-of-men-right.jpg

I cannot say enough about this set (Fishers of Men).   When I was assigned to use this set for today’s tutorial, I was so excited.   My hubby is a fisherman and the images and sentiments are just gorgeous.   Don’t you just love it??

Would YOU like to own this set???  Well, one lucky reader is going to win this set :).   All you have to do is leave a comment on this post between now and Thursday March 12th at 6pm stating WHY you would like this set and your name will be entered into a random drawing!   It doesn’t get much better than that now, does it? 🙂

Be sure to check out Nancy and Lorelie’s blogs for more chances to win and some more awesome projects!

Here are some deets on my project:

Stamps:  Our Daily Bread Designs’ Fishers of Men

Accessories: baby blue 1/2 pearls, white and chocolate candy dots, brown, green and rust velvet ribbon, label 1 & 2 nestabilities, oval punches (small and medium), scissors, dimensionals, photo corner punch, 1/4″ hole punch, brads, flies.

Great for mens cards but perfect for my youngest son….he loves fishing and goes whenever he has a free block of time which is rarely….I taught him to fish when he was three with barbless hooks on the pond where we lived. He now lives on the same pond but fishes in Canada when he can get away.

  49. on 11 Mar 2009 at 15:28Maxine

I would love this Fishers of Men set as I do not yet have any ODBD stamps, and with the exchange rate and postage they are waaaaaaaaay too expensive for me to buy 🙁 I also need more masculine stamps 🙂

Great tutorial. I love the project and like most of the comments – the flies really add so much! It would be great for people who fish but I could also finally get something started with our Church. I have been toying with idea of cards at Church and maybe this would spark us on! It is perfect for Lent!!!! Anyway, I am enjoying your creations. Thanks so much for sharing!

  56. on 11 Mar 2009 at 16:15Sheri Z.

I would like this set, so I can make a card for my father-in-law. He loves fishing, but between his heart problems and cancer, he doesn’t get a chance to go anymore.

  57. on 11 Mar 2009 at 16:33Ruth Sharpe

I would love this set because I don’t really have much in the way for making ‘guy’ cards. Besides I really like the sentiments!

  68. on 11 Mar 2009 at 20:03Sharon

I would love this set because it represents one of my favorite stories in the bible and it also reminds me of my late father who loved to fish. Thank you,

  69. on 11 Mar 2009 at 20:10Cheri Howard

I love your frame idea! I like this set because is pretty much sums up the life of a Christian – to be fishers of men. If we are not doing that, we are missing so many blessings and opportunities from the Lord. It also means we are not experiencing the fulfillment God intends for us. The “Cast your cares…” sentiment is also a reminder that no matter how tough it is or alone we feel, our Heavenly Father is always watching over us and carrying the burden for us if only we let Him. Thanks for a chance to win this one!

  70. on 11 Mar 2009 at 20:20TinaH

I love this set, with three sons and a DH, it is so challenging to create “man cards” – this sure fits the bill – thank you for sharing such a great project with us!

  71. on 11 Mar 2009 at 20:35Tracy Hale

  81. on 11 Mar 2009 at 23:24Judith Strausbaugh

Thank you for the great tutorial. Love this set as it is such an inspirational set. Have 4 sons and 1 stepson and they love to fish. What better way to inspire with such a great biblical verse with nature as well. It is so hard to find great stamps like this set for men. Would love to win this set.

  82. on 11 Mar 2009 at 23:43Marsha

This is a great set for making cards with a masculine look to them. I am really short on stamps that can be used for masculine cards. This would be a great addition.

  83. on 12 Mar 2009 at 00:24Velta

Wow Holly…You really get a lot of comments when you give away a prize…I think I am number 83…but I do not expect to win…I just had to comment on your lovely creative card…you are such an inspiration as well as your verse 🙂

  84. on 12 Mar 2009 at 03:44Sandee

Holly this is fantastic! Love the flies!!!

  85. on 12 Mar 2009 at 05:01Diane

This is a very nice set…would love to win it, as I don’t have any of the sets, yet……I just have to cool my heals at buying fro awhile 🙁 as work here is so slow…but maybe someday I will be a proud owner of our ODB designs…I am working on a prayer journal swap, and the sentiments would be great to stamp in the book!

  86. on 12 Mar 2009 at 05:05Kathy (Wattle)

Honestly how can you NOT love any of the ODBD sets??? This set is great because you can use it for men and yet also has wonderful sentiments as well! Love the tutorial – thanks Holly!!!

  87. on 12 Mar 2009 at 05:09Lisa W

    I love your stamps.

  88. on 12 Mar 2009 at 05:44sUSAn

I would use it to make cards for our parish nurses for them to send out. sUSAn

Hi! I love ODB stamps, and this one looks beautiful!! I love your tutorial, and would be so happy to win the set. Thanks!!

  90. on 12 Mar 2009 at 06:32Maria Matter

Holly, this is just a fantastic project!!! You did an excellent job presenting it, thank you for sharing!
This is my favorite set, I think it’s so versatile. Would love to win it and make some “man” cards to bless the male population too!! Thank you!
    blessings, Maria

  91. on 12 Mar 2009 at 06:37Cheryl

Who wouldn’t want this stamp set, but especially because it is masculine and has one of my favorite verses on it.

  92. on 12 Mar 2009 at 07:05Sandra Strickler

I would love to own this stamp for the sentiment. I lean on the fact that I can cast my fears, hopes, dreams, all of it on him and he WILL sustain me!!!

  93. on 12 Mar 2009 at 07:20Cathy Keck

I would love this set as my husband and my daughter love to fish. The sentiment is wonderful and would be very useful. Who doesn’t love a good masculine set in the world of flowers.

  94. on 12 Mar 2009 at 08:07Sheila Brady

I would love this set to create great welcome basket cards for our church congregation. I love making the cards to match the recepient and since we live in a rural community there are lots of “fishermen” in our community.

  95. on 12 Mar 2009 at 08:10Patricia Parrish

I have not seen an ODBD set that I don’t like, just have not been in position to obtain one, yet. I think this would be a wonderful man’s set but could also be used for women. This would be a great first set.

  96. on 12 Mar 2009 at 09:24Jan Butler

This is a great idea for a masculine card. Plus the scripture is perfect.

  97. on 12 Mar 2009 at 10:33Shannon

I am a brand new follower of ODB and I have to say what a blessing it is! It can be difficult to find stamps and images that give the glory to God, but ODB does that and more. I would love to have this set, as I don’t have any ODB sets yet.

    Blessings!

Oh how exciting! Your tutorial is fab! I absolutely LOVE this stamp set!!! I’ve been looking at it for quite sometime. It’s so hard to find a really good masculine set and this is just perfect!!! PICK ME, PICK ME! You ladies are all fabulous and I love ODBD!!!

Fabulous tutorial! I will definitely get plenty of use of it!

I absolutely love this set for many reasons: it reminds me of my time fishing with my 17 yr old son who will soon be going off to college, it contains one of my most favorites Bible verses, it is the best I’ve seen for “guy” cards, love, love, love the fonts used in the sentiments…I could go on and on! It is just THE BEST!

Thanks for the chance!!! I’d love to win this set, I love the scripture, and I could use a good masculine set, especially one having to do with fishing. DH is a big fisherman!

This is a great way to show off this set. I would love it because I never seem to be able to find the right stamp for a masculine card, and, my father and brother in laws are all fishermen. thanks for the chance to win this set.

I love ODBD stamps and only have 2 sets so far. Would love to win this set! My dad loves to fish so I could use it for him as well as other male friends and family members.

What a beautiful stamp set. It is so hard to find masculine sets. I love your tutorial, too. O don’t have any ODBD sets yet, and this one would be great to own.
