Toy's Haven

Well, it is that time again…. the dirty girls (past and present) are once again challenging each other in a new way.   This month our challenge was a toughie…. we were to create a card/project inspired by a childhood memory.     We were not allowed to use snowflakes in any way shape or form and we had to use wrapping paper somewhere in our design.

My childhood memories are of Christmas in California as that is where I grew up.   I remember getting bicycles for Christmas and being able to ride them that day!   My kids have never been able to say that :).

The Santa of my childhood was a cool dude… he wore sunglasses and resembled Jerry Garcia.    Of course, it may have been 70 degrees on Christmas day, so he was likely wearing shorts and sipping a lemonade.   It was the 70’s ya know! 🙂

The Santa of my day likely surfed with a candy cane  surf board on the beach in Santa Cruz.    I can remember many a Christmas vacation spent at the beach!    My poor kids spend their Christmas vacations couped up indoors staying warm.   As a kid, I spent mine exploring sand dunes and picking winter apples.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little walk down memory lane.   The funny thing is, it is suppose to be in the 50s next week here in Northern Colorado…. we may just have a green Christmas this year, afterall :).

Colors:  Box: Riding Hood Red, Certainly Celery; Card/Display:  Real Red, GP White, Basic Black, Blush Blossom, Pink Pirouette,  Bashful Blue, Creamy Caramel, Summer Sun, Basic Gray Wassail.

Accessories:  Ribbons, brads, 3″  coasters, sticky tape, hole punch, 1/2″ circle punch, square scallop punch, medium oval scallop punch, cuttlebug (swirls) ef, round tab punch (for santa’s moustache),  circle punches, word window punch, sentiments are handwritten and santa’s surfboard is hand drawn… oh and dimensionals!

~ IC159  Designer Label Purse ~

  It’s funny how sometimes an IC picture will inspire me to work with the colors, other times the layout, and then again  sometimes I feel like recreating the piece.    This is one of those latter times.    When I saw the MaXimo purse, I thought of my little cousin Beilynn’s Christmas present and how I was going to wrap it.   What better way than to tuck it into this little designer label purse?!

I did tweek it a bit to make it my own, but I had to use those colors as they are Beilynn’s favorites and I loved the sun medallion on the front, so I drew that on a small piece of lavendar lace cardstock and punched it out for the center.    I even added a designer label to the bad, but I purposely put the tilde in the wrong spot so as not to copyright infringe.

Ink:  Black Sharpie, white gel pen

Accessories: brads, ribbon, ribbon border slide punch, round tab punch, large circle punch, pinked nesties, large hole punch, sticky tape and dimensionals.
